Congratulations on looking at the Knauf Earthwool range for your insulation needs.

Knauf Earthwool® External Wall batts are a new generation of softer, safer and more environmentally friendly glasswool insulation. Although the product is primarily designed for use in external walls it can also be used for internal walls to reduce sound transmission from room to room.

Wall insulation is so effective that it is now a requirement in new homes. If you are renovating or extending, insulating your ceiling and walls are the first things to consider to reduce your energy consumption.

This Knauf Earthwool R2.5 wall batt is a high density performance batt for walls. It is referred to as HD (High Density). With both thermal and accoustic properties, this batt is suitable for both external and internal walls. HD batts are commonly used in home theatres. The batt fits tightly in a standard 90mm wall cavity.

Only a few years ago R2.0 was considered a great option in walls for cooler climates like Canberra and Melbourne but with a heightened awareness of energy costs, consumers in these areas are now choosing this higher R2.5 high density (HD) or even the R2.7 super high density (SHD) batts. This R2.5 is a great choice for your insulation. Insulation is a one-off cost with ongoing benefits.

The Knauf Earthwool® External and Internal Wall batt range includes a selection of R-Values to choose the best thermal performance for your project. Knauf Earthwool® External and Internal Wall batts will absorb the transfer of unwanted sound from outside to inside the home. In addition to sound absorption, Knauf Earthwool® External and Internal Wall batts will improve the thermal comfort and energy efficiency of the building in which they have been installed thus keeping it cool in summer and warm in winter. Super-soft to handle and install, Earthwool® is made using up to 80% recycled glass and with ECOSE® Technology, a sustainable, bio-based binder that contains no added formaldehyde.

Earthwool is fast becoming the most popular brand in the market due to it being softer to handle.

Tips when installing

To make sure your wall insulation stays away from the brick exterior wall, use a breather wall wrap. If unable to use a breather wrap due to the renovation access problems, install strap or string behind the stud. See below for accessory options for your batt.

Don’t leave any cavities. When installing insulation between framing members, ensure that you achieve a snug fit avoiding any gaps, tucks and folds.

Where installing around wall lights or heat sources consult the appliance manufacturer’s instructions for appropriate clearances. Additional guidance is provided in AS 3999 and NZS 4246.

What Safety things do I need to consider?

You must turn the mains power 'Off'' before entering the work space, and, if in any doubt about how to turn the power 'Off'', you must consult a licensed electrician.

Defective electrical cables, exposed terminals and conductors of electrical equipment such as light fittings and fans can cause burns and electric shocks please exercise caution when working near such hazards – check with an electrician if you are unsure if the cabling is safe.

Working in hot and poorly ventilated areas when installing insulation can be dangerous.

Working at heights, when installing insulation can be dangerous. For example, do not stand on the top rung of a ladder when accessing your manhole.
