Product Details

This is an R2.0 wall batt for studs that are 600mm apart.

The R2.0 product is a good option for those on a budget.

Earthwool® External Wall batts are a new generation of softer, safer and more environmentally friendly Glasswool insulation. Although the product is primarily designed for use in external walls it can also be used for internal walls to reduce sound transmission from room to room. High Density (HD) and Super High Density (SHD) External Wall batts with increased density and lower thermal conductivity to maximise energy savings are also available in the range.

Wall insulation is so effective that it is now a requirement in new homes. If you are renovating or extending, insulating your ceiling and walls are the first things to consider to reduce your energy consumption.

The Earthwool® External and Internal Wall batt range includes a selection of R-Values to provide builders, designers, installers and DIYers the opportunity to choose the best thermal performance for their project. Earthwool® External and Internal Wall batts will also absorb the transfer of unwanted sound from outside to inside the home. In addition to sound absorption, Earthwool® External and Internal Wall batts will improve the thermal comfort and energy efficiency of the building in which they have been installed thus keeping it cool in summer and warm in winter. Super-soft to handle and install, Earthwool® is made using up to 80% recycled glass and with ECOSE® Technology, a sustainable, bio-based binder that contains no added formaldehyde.

Earthwool is fast becoming the most popular brand in the market due to it being softer to handle.

Tips when installing

To make sure your wall insulation stays away from the brick exterior wall, use a breather wall wrap. If unable to use a breather wrap due to the renovation access problems, install strap or string behind the stud. See below for accessory options for your batt.

Don’t leave any cavities. When installing insulation between framing members, ensure that you achieve a snug fit avoiding any gaps, tucks and folds.

Where installing around wall lights or heat sources consult the appliance manufacturer’s instructions for appropriate clearances. Additional guidance is provided in AS 3999 and NZS 4246.

Should I get a higher R-value

This is a base R-value product. If you can afford it, we always recommend a higher R-value. Just make sure the thickness of the batt does not exceed the cavity/wall depth.

What Safety things do I need to consider

You must turn the mains power 'Off'' before entering the work space, and, if in any doubt about how to turn the power 'Off'', you must consult a licensed electrician.

Working in areas that contain live electrical wiring is extremely hazardous. Take extreme care to avoid touching any live overhead electrical lines, supply cables or any other live cables in the workspace.

Defective electrical cables, exposed terminals and conductors of electrical equipment such as light fittings and fans can cause burns and electric shocks please exercise caution when working near such hazards – check with an electrician if you are unsure if the cabling is safe.

Working in hot and poorly ventilated areas when installing insulation can be dangerous.

Working at heights, when installing insulation can be dangerous. For example, do not stand on the top rung of a ladder when accessing your manhole.
